Fredrick Dean Harvey
(February 29, 1936 - June 22, 2016)

Fredrick Dean Harvey, 80, was a leap year baby born on February 29, 1936 in Warren County, IA to Fred and Wilma Harvey. Dean passed away unexpectedly on June 22, 2016 at Mercy Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Dean served in the United States Navy from 1954 to 1962 in various squadrons aboard the USS Saratoga and USS Ticonderoga. Dean married his wife, Jo Ann (Dop) in 1955 at Simpson College in Indianola, IA. After leaving the Navy, Dean owned two filling stations, worked various jobs in the automotive industry and finished his career at Boyer Petroleum.
Dean was preceded in death by his wife Jo Ann; sisters, Pauline, Anne, Linda; and daughter, Wendy. He is survived by his children, Teresa, John (Melinda), Andrew (Cindy), Anthony and Joseph (MacKenzie); grandchildren, Carson, Stephen, Patrick, Heather, Jon, Amy and Amanda; and 16 great-grandchildren. Dean is also survived by many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Services for Dean will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 25 at Overton Funeral Home, Indianola. Burial with military rites will follow in the Linn Grove Cemetery, Prole, IA. Visitation will be held 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 24 at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present to greet friends. Memorials may be given to the Indianola American Legion Post #165 or Wakonda Christian Church in Des Moines.
