Patricia Irene Young
(December 30, 1940 - July 20, 2016)

Graveside services for Patricia Irene Young, 75, who passed away peacefully, Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at the Kavanagh House on 56th Street in Des Moines, surrounded by many family and friends, from a sudden diagnosis of cancer, will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, July 23 at the Indianola I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Pat was born December 30, 1940 and grew up on a farm southeast of Liberty Center. She enjoyed fishing, going on rides to new places and loved the outdoors. Her interests were playing Yatzee, listening to the police scanner and spending time with her family, friends and companion of 19 years. She worked and volunteered at the Indianola Good Samaritan. Pat had moved to Las Vegas in 1997, where she was a CNA at Valley Hospital for 15 years before retiring. She then volunteered at that same hospital for 4 more years.
She is survived by son, Paul (Patricia) Young; companion of 18 years, Curtis Gardner; sister, Shirley Burgett; three grandchildren, Bailey Young, Taralynn Young and Jenifer (Nick) Connett; two great-grandchildren, MaKayla and Madison Connett; nieces, Laura (Ben) Sinclair and Sherri (Greg) Melloh; and several other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Bertha (McIntosh) Rhoads; husband, Paul Young; brother, Jim Rhoads; and sisters,Wilma Jean Salvetti and Doris Ann Rhoads.
Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, July 22 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola where family will be present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
