Donald Arlen Norton
(October 10, 1949 - August 14, 2016)

Donald Arlen Norton, age 66, passed away suddenly while on vacation in Colorado on Sunday, August 14, 2016. He was born in Moline, Illinois to Woodrow and Lucile (Kessler) Norton on October 10, 1949. He grew up near Bloomfield, Iowa and graduated from Davis County High School in 1967.
He married Linda Rundlett at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Marion, Iowa on August 2, 1970. Don and Linda made their home with their three children, Anne, Daniel, and Benjamin in Marion for 21 years. In 1991 they moved to Indianola, Iowa.
Don worked for TMC Transportation for over 24 years. He spent most of those years driving a flatbed truck all over the United States and much of Canada. His many experiences included delivering pipe to the New York Trade Center site, driving over a frozen lake 200 miles from the Arctic Circle and driving to the east coast of Newfoundland; a trip requiring an 8 hour ferry ride. After driving more than 2.5 million safe miles Don drove his truck into the TMC terminal for the last time on October 31, 2015. He viewed every day of his retirement as a true gift from God. He has filled his days with walking, bike riding, trap shooting, playing pickle ball, playing cards, helping others, and enjoying his new role as "house husband." He was especially enjoying spending time with family and old friends and making new friends. With his great gift of storytelling, his vision of life as a great adventure, and his deep caring for his family and friends, Don shared a little piece of himself with everyone whom he came in contact.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; children, Anne (Scott) Bartels, Daniel (Amy) Norton and Benjamin (Sara) Norton; grandchildren, Ryan and Abby Bartels, Leah and Evan Norton; siblings, Henry and Charles Norton, Carol Greene and Betty Reyes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Lucile Norton; a brother, William Norton; and his father-in-law, Glenn Rundlett. This memorial is provided by Overton Funeral Home, 501 West Ashland Ave., Indianola, Iowa, [http://www.overtonfuneral.com/]
