James Francis Cassady
(July 30, 1946 - December 23, 2016)

A Mass of Christian burial for James F. Cassady, 70, of St. Charles, who died Friday, December 23, 2016 at Arbor Springs in West Des Moines, IA after a long battle with Alzheimer’s, will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, December 29, at the Church of the Assumption, Churchville, IA with burial following in Calvary Cemetery, Churchville.
Jim was born the son of John V. and Agnes (Miller) Cassady on July 30, 1946. He graduated from Martensdale-St. Marys High School in 1964. After high school, Jim enlisted in the Army Reserves while attending Southwest Community College for two years in Creston, IA. He continued to serve in the Army Reserves for another 6 years after he returned to the family farm. He was united in marriage to Sharon Rae Shelker on November 30, 1968. They settled in St. Charles, IA with their four children, Jim, Anne, Brian and Jason.
Jim enjoyed farming and spending time with his family and grandchildren. He served on the Madison County Fair Board Association for over 15 years and was also a long-time 4H leader for the Ohio Future Feeders township.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Sharon; sons, James M. (Cindi), Brian, Jason (Amy) and daughter Anne Cassady-Hornick (Dave); his grandchildren, Mason, Logan, Colin, Owen, Ryan, Brynn, Quinten, Braelynn and Sarah; brothers Thomas (Jan), Robert, sister Diane McCauley (Tom), sister-in-law Jane Cassady; and numerous nieces, nephews and relatives.He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John M. Cassady.
Visitation will be held 4 to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, December 28 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with family present. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the family in Jim’s name for future remembrances to honor and remember Jim.
