David Morrill Hiller
(March 3, 1932 - April 3, 2017)

Memorial services for David Morrill Hiller, 85, who passed away Monday, April 3, 2017 at The Good Samaritan Society in Indianola, will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, April 9 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dianne (Smull) Hiller, and three children: his son, Joel Hiller and his wife, Patti (Carpenter) Hiller; his daughter, Jennifer (Hiller) Hayes and her husband, Nicholas Hayes; his son, Jon Hiller, and his wife Vicki (Buchman) Hiller; six grandchildren, Ben Stanton, Jeremy Stanton, Jennifer (Wooten) Vaughen; Chloe`(Hayes) Micka; Kindra Hayes; and Kyle Hiller; and three great-grandchildren: Takoda, Malibu, and Dodge. He was preceeded in death by his daughter Joy (Hiller) Whittaker.
Born in Middleton, New York, March 3, 1932, the son of David B. Hiller and Viola (Morrill) Hiller, he spent most of his childhood in Plainfield, Iowa, where he met his wife Dianne. They have resided together as residents of Indianola for 48 years, since establishing his Civil Engineering and Land Surveying business.
In his early years in New York, David Hiller lost his mother in a car accident, and then his father re-established their home in Plainfield, Iowa, with a loving, step-mother, Laura (Schaefer) Hiller. After graduating from Plainfield High School in 1949, David attended Wartburg College for 2 years, finishing his degree at the University of Iowa, graduating in 1955, with a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. His wife, Dianne Smull, graduated in the same High School class, and they were married in 1954, at the Plainfield Baptist Church. In 1955, after graduating, he worked at Stanley Engineering in Muscatine, Iowa.
After a short time, Mr. Hiller had the opportunity to join Cedar Valley Engineering in Waverly, Iowa. Later he then joined Howard R. Green Engineering in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for a few years before moving to Indianola, in 1969, when he established his own business, Hiller Engineering. He not only took pride in his business, but truly relished the friends he made during his time in business. Over the years, he played an active role on the Board of Directors for the Society of Land Surveyors of Iowa.
Mr. Hiller had a passion for photography and loved the outdoors, spending much of his vacation time traveling to National Parks and seasides with his family. Also during this time, David was a very active member of the of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, having served on the state board for a number of years.
