James Albert Love
(Sep 20, 1922 - May 27, 2017)

While his daughter held the left hand of James Albert Love, Jesus took his right hand and welcomed him home. Jim (known to family as Albert) passed away on Saturday May 27, 2017 at Lutheran Hospital. He had a massive stroke on Thursday morning, May 25th. He stayed with us long enough for family to arrive. When they removed the ventilator, he stayed with us for another 45 minutes, surrounded by family and friends. It was a peaceful and loving passing.
Jim was born in rural northern Warren County. His parents were Arthur Daniel Love and Flora Edna Stanton Pike Love. He was the fourth of seven children. Times were hard when Jim was growing up, but love flowed thru that family always. He and his siblings attended a one room school house. When he always said he had to walk uphill both ways to get to school, he wasn’t kidding. There was a valley in between the house and the school. The love of farming, family, and integrity was built deep into Jim’s heart. Jim lived and worked on the farm until 1944 when he was drafted into the Army for World War II. He was on a ship over the Pacific on his way to Japan when the bombs were dropped that ended the war.
After the war, he met and fell in love with Norietta Jean Soutter Love. They were married May 25, 1947 at Capitol Hill Church. Jim continued to farm while they started their family. Cindy (Thea) Love and Bonita Love were born while they lived there. They moved to Des Moines before the birth of their next daughter, Mary Love. They lived on the east side on Des Moines Street for a few years before moving to East 26th Street in the early 60s. A few years later, their youngest daughter, Jeanne Love was born. He and Norietta lived there thru 2004. At that time, he moved to Lacona, Iowa to live with his daughter Jeanne and her three children, Evan Musfeldt, Cora Musfeldt, and Brenna Musfeldt. He enjoyed living on Jeanne’s acreage in his own home. In 2015, he moved one last time to Berwick, Iowa. Even up to the morning of the stroke, Jim lived in his own home, with his daughter Jeanne being just across the street.
After leaving the farm, Jim worked for Farmland Industries (Co-Op) for many years. He drove many hundreds of miles for them before retiring in 1983. He loved chatting with fellow drivers on his CB radio. His handle was “King James.” During the family vacations, he still visited with his friends on the radio. He took his family on many vacations throughout the years, one year to the East Coast, another to the West Coast, and later to Hawaii. He always said “It’s nice to go visit, but nothing beats home.”
Jim was a founding member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Des Moines, Later, he became a very faithful member of NewLife Church in Pleasant Hill. He enjoyed attending meals at the Senior Center in Lacona, Iowa and Norwoodville Community Center.
Jim is survived by his children: Cynthia, Bonita, Mary and Jeanne Love; his grandchildren, Evan, Cora, and Brenna and five others; his sister, Evelyn Labenz. He is preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Flora (Pike) Love; siblings: Charles Love, Edna Belle Clark, Mary Lavern Pritchard, Georgia June Pitchford, and Edward Love.
Services were held at 2 p.m., on Tuesday, May 30 at the NewLife Church, 6036 N.E. 12th Ave, Pleasant Hill, IA. The burial will be following in the Scotch Ridge Cemetery, Rural Carlisle, IA.
