Obituary – Sara Elizabeth Tidball
After less than a week’s illness, Miss Sara Elizabeth Tidball died at the home of her brother, S. H. Tidball, 400 S. 2nd Street, early last Friday morning, January 23. She came home sick the preceding Saturday evening. Although confined to her bed her condition was not thought to be serious and she seemed to be improving. Even those who were closest to her had no thought that death was near until less than an hour before she passed away. Sara Elizabeth Tidball was born at Millersburg, Ohio, November 1, 1860, where she grew up, and later came with the family to Warren county, Iowa. The greater part of her life was lived in Indianola and vicinity. She was educated in the public schools of Millersburg, where she attended high school, and later, was a student in the Ackworth academy. Miss Tidball lived a useful helpful, Christian life. Nothing seemed to please her more than to help some one else, who was sick or discouraged, and back of her kind ministries was the Christian motive. She nursed her father and mother through prolonged illness and was always helpful in the home. By nature Miss Tidball was industrious and was never idle. When all of her time was not required in the home she sought employment outside and at various times was employed as a cook and dressmaker, and in other capacities. In her early years, Miss Tidball united with the Presbyterian church of Millersburg, Ohio, on profession of faith. When she came to Indianola, she transferred her membership to the First Presbyterian church, by letter, May 4, 1889. She was a conscientious, consistent, faithful member. She loved the church, was regular in attendance upon its services, interested in all its activities, and true to her obligations as a Christian. She is survived by one brother and one sister, S. H. Tidball and Miss Margaret Tidball, both of Indianola. The funeral services were held at the home Sabbath afternoon, January 25, at three o’clock. Her pastor, Rev. Thomas McGregor, officiated. The music was rendered by a quartette from the Frist Presbyterian church choir, consisting of Mrs. McGranahan, Miss Effie Weinmann, Guy Swartzlander and E. E. Henry. Interment was made in the Indianola cemetery.
