Sarah Catherine Butler
(Oct 19, 1836 - Jan 29, 1920)

Indianola Herald, Indianola, Iowa, Thurs., Feb 5, 1920
Mrs. W. W. Butler
Sarah Catherine White was born in Fulton county, Illinois, October 19, 1842. She was the daughter of William and Eliza Jane White. Early in life she became a member of the Christian church, later affiliating with the Methodist church. In September 1867 she was united in marriage with W. W. Butler. Four children were born to this union, Cora, Charles Asa, Adda May and Whiter Scott. Cora, Adda May and Walter Scott preceded her to the Great Beyond. In November 1870, the family removed from Illinois to Warren county, Iowa, settling on a farm near Medford, where they lived for twenty-seven years, after which they removed to Indianola, their present home. She died Thursday, January 29, at the age of 77 years. She was not only a good mother to her own children, but also to her step-sons, Gilbert Henry and William Harrison, and two grandsons, Otis and Kenneth. She is survived by her husband, one son, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and four step-grand-children. Wherever she has lived she will be mourned by all who know her, for no one ever went from her home without realizing that her good will and sympathy went with them. Hers has been a busy life, ministering to others, giving good cheer to those in trouble, feeding the hungry, comforting the friendless and doing whatever she could find to make life happier to those around her. It can well be said of her, that she has always been the Good Samaritan among her neighbors.
