Andrew Fitzsimmons Dead
Andrew Fitzsimmons was born in Ireland on Jan 8th, 1842, and died at home of Mrs. Lee Roy Sr., on March 15, 1920, aged 78 years, 2 months and 7 days. He came to the United States with his parents when a small child. His father was accidently killed in a short time after coming to this country. He had one brother who died when young. After the death of his parents he made his home with Hiram Pulham at West Union, Preston county, Va., who educated him for a school teacher. When fifteen years of age he met with an accident which caused the amputation of his right limb. He taught school in Preston Co., Va, for several years making his home with the Roy family when they lived in Virginia. Later in his life he married and made his home in Salisbury, Maryland, where his wife died from exposure at the Johnstown flood. He continued making his home in Maryland until seven years ago when he came to New Virginia to make his home with Mr. and Mrs. Roy. His last sickness was only of a weeks duration, but he was very grateful and appreciative of all that was done for his comfort never forgetting to thank those who waited upon him. “Uncle Andy” as all called him was a pleasant, modest old gentleman and will be greatly missed by the Roy family and the friends he has made during the years he has spent here among us. Short funeral services were conducted by Rev. Isaac Thomas at Coulter Bros., undertaking parlors on Tuesday afternoon, after which the body was laid to rest in the New Virginia cemetery.
