Obituary – Jas. A. Hyde
James Anderson Hyde, son of John and Martha N. Hyde, was born at Entrim, Guernsey County, Ohio, July 12, 1839 and died at his country home in Indianola, Iowa, Friday night, April 17, 1914 at the age of 74 years, 9 months and 6 days.
He was the sixth child, his father, mother, four brothers and one sister preceded him to the spirit world. In the spring of 1852 he came with his parents to Leclair, Scott County, Iowa, and in 1854 they moved to DeWitt, Iowa. He was converted and joined the United Presbyterian church at DeWitt, Iowa under the ministry of Rev. R. S. Campbell. He was married to Mary Jane Irwin, November 20, 1866. To them were born five children: Martha E. Clement of Malone, Iowa; Emma A. Wheeler of Appleton City, Missouri; Minnie M. Wheeler of Indianola, Iowa; Joseph E. Hyde of Ackworth, Iowa; and John E. Hyde who died in infancy.
In the spring of 1873 he move to Warren County, IA. His loving wife and children were all with him to the last and all that loving hands could do was done for him. During his last sickness he expressed the desire to go and be with his Master and entering his room you could here him in prayer and saying, “All is well, all is well” and repeating the 23rd and 103 Psalms. He said he was just waiting for the Master to come. A short time before death came he prayed for the family and all the neighbors and friends and then repeated the prayer as in infancy, “Now I lay me down to sleep,” the sleep from which none ever wakes to weep. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, three daughters, one son, eight grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters and a host of relatives and friends.
The funeral services were held from the home, Monday, April 20th at 1:30 p.m. and were conducted by Rev Jamison of Elmwood United Presbyterian church of Des Moines. Interment was in the city cemetery. Card of Thanks – May heaven’s choicest blessings rest upon the kind friends who so lovingly watched with us during the sickness and death of our dear father, and for the beautiful flowers - Mrs. J. A. Hyde and children
