Amanda King
(September 15, 1839 – August 4, 1913)

The Advocate Tribune, Indianola, Iowa, Thursday, August 14, 1913, p.6
Obituary
Mrs. Amanda King, oldest daughter of Samuel and Margaret Snyder, was born in Pennsylvania, September 15, 1839, and died at her home in Summerset, Iowa, August 4, 1913, aged seventy-three years, ten months and twenty days. She was united in marriage to John King in Harrison county, Missouri, in the year 1858. To this union seven children were born, three of whom died in infancy. The four children who still remain to mourn the loss of a beloved mother are: F. M. King, of South Omaha; L. C. Kings, of Summerset, Iowa; Mrs. H. F. Korff, of Fairbault, Minnesota; C. L. King, of Des Moines, Iowa, all of whom were at her bedside when she passed away. Her husband died January 25, 1901. Mrs. King united with the Baptist church of Summerset, Iowa, shortly after its organization and remained a faithful and active member of the same until God took her to the church triumphant in heaven. She has been a great and constant sufferer for the past seven months, but she bore all her suffering without murmur or complaint. A short time before she passed away she requested that the twenty-third psalm be read to her, and prayer offered to God that He would speedily come and take her home to Himself. She expressed a joyful willingness to die, and told those who were at her bed side how dear her Savior was to her as she felt herself slipping into the valley and shadow of death. She died very triumphantly. Besides her children she leaves two brothers, James Snyder of Summerset, Iowa; E. L. Snyder, of Newton, Iowa; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and a host of sorrowing friends to mourn her departure. The funeral services were held at the home of the deceased in Summerset, conducted by Rev. Fred Harris, and interment was made in the cemetery at the Scotch Ridge church.
