Obituary – Theodore C. Braucht
Death came unexpectedly to Theodore C. Braucht at his home, 108 East First avenue last Tuesday forenoon, December 30. He was sticken with cerebral hemorrhage early in the morning and passed away about 9:30 without regaining consciousness. Theodore Clinton Braucht was born in Mississippi, July 31, 1853, and at the time of his death had reached the age of sixty-six years, four months, and thirty days. At an early age he came with his parents to Warren county, Iowa, where he lived continuously until the time of his death. Most of his life was spent on a farm near Medford, in Squaw township. Two years ago he left the farm and came to Indianola to make his home. Mr. Braucht was an energetic, industrious man and as a successful farmer was widely known in the county where he spent most of his life, and his friends were many. Before leaving the farm he suffered a stroke of paralysis which laid him aside from active participation in affairs. He never entirely recovered and for five years was an invalid. Several other strokes followed, each leaving him weaker and more helpless until death came unexpectedly and without any premonition last Tuesday morning. January 8, 1877, Mr. Braucht was united in marriage to Miss Rebecca Anthony Cashman, who preceded him, dying May 11, 1917. To them were born nine children: Ernest, who died in infancy; Amandus, of Alberta, Canada; Mrs. Susie Bryant, of Indianola; Ben, of Crosby, N. D.; Mrs. Lottie Ogle and Ira, of New Virginia, Iowa; LaVere of Des Moines; and Miss Lenore and Mrs. Ruth McMillen, of Indianola. Mr. Braucht was a member of the First Presbyterian church of Indianola, having united with the church July 7, 1918, on profession of faith in Christ. As long as he was able he was a regular attendant upon its services. The funeral service, conducted by his pastor, Rev. Thomas McGregor, assisted by Rev. C. W. Stewart, was held at the home Friday morning at 10:00. Misses Worth and Manning sang “The Rose of Sharon” and “Crossing the Bar.” Interment was made in the Hewitt cemetery. The service at the cemetery was conducted by the Masonic fraternity of which he was a member. The family has the sympathy of the community in their bereavement.
