Advocate Tribune newspaper, Indianola, Iowa, Thursday, Jan 1, 1920, p.6

Obituary – Mrs. Frank F. Keeney
Alta May Phelps was born at Munson, Ohio, October 2, 1867, and passed away at her home in Indianola, Iowa, December 23, 1919, at the age of fifty-two years, two months and twenty-one days. She moved with her parents to Iowa and spent her girlhood, young womanhood and married life in Indianola. She was united in marriage to Frank F. Keeney October 20, 1886, and to this union were born four children: Mrs. Lottie M. Austin, of Chicago, IL; Mrs. Nellie M. Sebring, of Boone, Iowa; Hugh P. Keeney, of Sioux City, and Miss Ruby Keeney, who is still at home and whose loving care during her mother’s illness and death was a great comfort to all. There is one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Hugh P. Keeney, and two sons-in-law, George E. Austin and Charles B. Sebring. There are two grandchildren, Winifred Jean Keeney and Keeney Forest Sebring; one sister, Myra E. Miller, of Academy, Calif., and three brothers, Carmi E. Phelps, of Indianola; Chas. H. Phelps, of Ritchie, Montana, and Benj. W. Phelps, of Mason City, Iowa; a brother, William B., passed away in August, 1913. These with the husband remain to mourn her departure. Mrs. Keeney united with the First Baptist church at Indianola, Iowa, in January, 1881, at the age of thirteen years. As known, loved, and trusted in her own home, she will be sorely missed and mourned as a kind, tender hearted and lovely wife and mother. As known among her neighbors during her entire residence in this city, and in the membership of the “Golden Hour Class” of the Baptist church for many years, she is praised as a sister who had proved her remarkable stability and fidelity – always in her place – always trustworthy and helpful in every position of duty and every opportunity to do good in the example of her Savior, and bring always of the same loyal spirit, she never disappointed her many Christian friends. As she worshiped her Lord, so she loved His book. The 23rd Psalm is mentioned as a great favorite of her bible reading.
Card of Thanks – We wish to thank the many friends who were so much comfort and help in the sickness and death of our dear wife and mother. The many kindnesses shown us have been deeply appreciated. – F. F. Keeney, Mrs. G. E. Austin, Mrs. C. B. Sebring, Hugh P. Keeney, Miss Ruby Keeney.
