Obituary – Florence A. Davey
Florence Arley Stierwalt, daughter of Henry A. and Elizabeth Stierwalt, was born in Warren County, Iowa, November 4, 1871 and died July 20, 1956 at the age of 84 years, 7 months and 16 days. She had been in failing health for some time, and for the past two months has been cared for by the family in the home of her son and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. John Rex Davey in Indianola. During her childhood and young womanhood, she with her parents and sisters, lived in different parts of the county, finally moving to the farm home south west of Sandyville, where she attended school and later taught one year in a rural school north of Sandyville. On February 19, 1889 she was united in marriage to John L. Davey. To this union were born two sons and a daughter, Derby of Milo, the daughter who died in infancy and John Rex of Indianola. In early life she confessed Jesus as her Savior and joined the church of her faith, later moving her membership to the Milo Methodist Church where she remained a faithful member. Surviving are the husband, John L. Davey, sons Derby and John Rex, two daughters-in-law, six grand children and seven great grand children. Besides her parents and baby daughter, two grandsons and one great grand son precededher in death. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Martin of Des Moines and Mrs. India Jordan of Milo, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. “Mother was tired and weary, weary with toil and with pain; put by her glasses and rocker she will not need them again. Into heaven’s mansions she’s entered, never to sigh or to weep; after long years with life’s struggles, mother has fallen asleep. After each storm comes sunshine, after the darkness light, after the winter’s dreary cold comes blossoms fair and bright. Surely it is God’s wisdom that after an aching heart there shall be life eternal where loved ones never part.”
