Andrew J. Coffman
(Feb 6, 1841 - Aug 7, 1907)

Andrew J. Coffman was born .in Nicholas county, Kentucky,. February 6, 1841, and died at his home in Hammondsburg, Warren county, Iowa, Aug 7 1907; aged 66 years, 9 months and 1 day. He moved from Kentucky to Indiana where he resided 4 years and in 1857. moved to Iowa where he since resided.. On the third of August 1861 he enlisted Company G, 10th Iowa. Infantry and served until he was discharged at the close of the war in August 1865. In November 1889, shortly after the death of a little daughter, he enlisted the service of the Great Commander in which he served as a true soldier until he was called home. On March 14, 1867 he was united in marriage to Miss. Sarah Barker who with 7 sons, 2 daughters, 14 grandchildren, an aged sister and brother survive him to mourn his most sad, and untimely death.
Bro. Coffman had been an, elder in the church at Hammondsburg since its organization about 18 years ago. He was also an honored member of Milo Post G. A. R. and was a man that was loved by all who knew him. Funeral services were held at Hammondsburg, August 8, conducted d by C. S. Fair, assisted by Revs. Eveland and Hollingsworth in the presence of a very large audience who, by their tears of sympathy and their offerings of beautiful flowers, attested the high esteem in which the deceased was held by all. It was noticeable that there were a large number of old soldiers present and six of his comrades acted as pall bearers.
