Funeral services for Brent W. Meckley, 76, who passed away Monday, November 30, 2015, will be held at the First Baptist Church of Indianola 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 8, 2015, with a private family burial at the Iowa Veteran’s Cemetery in Van Meter.
Brent is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Judy (Lauck); son, Brad (Gail) Meckley; daughter, Jenny (Mark) Hartsook; four grandchildren, Aaron and Grace Meckley, Allison and Meredith Hartsook; sisters-in-law, Joyce Williams and Cheri Sones; cousin, Debbie Berry; and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents LaVere Williams and Wanda Katz.
Brent was born October 22, 1939 to LaVere and Wanda Williams in Urbandale, Iowa, where he grew up, went through school and graduated in 1957. He attended Simpson College, Parsons, Grandview College and then joined the Iowa Army National Guard. He retired after 31 years of military service with the guard and then worked another 11 years for American Abstract and Title Company.
Throughout life Brent held dear the close friendships he made through school, work, the neighborhood and his family’s activities. He enjoyed rooting for the Iowa Hawkeyes and the St. Louis Cardinals and spending time golfing and fishing. Most of all he loved being with his grandchildren and always looked forward to spending time with his family.
The family would like to thank the loving care received from First Baptist Church of Indianola and Kim, Garland and Jean of Unity Point Hospice. Memorial contributions may be directed to First Baptist Church of Indianola or Unity Point Hospice. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, December 7, 2015 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola where family will be present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
