Richard Daniel Dowell, 62, passed away at home in the presence of loved ones on the morning of September 12, 2015. He is survived by his wife, Diane, mother, Nancy, brother, Daniel, sister, Gail, 3 sons, Troy, Jesse, and Wesley, and 5 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Indianola on Tuesday, September 15th at 11:00 a.m., with burial services afterward at North River Cemetery. A visitation will also be held at the First United Methodist Church in Indianola on Monday, September 14th, from 4 to 8 p.m., with family available from 6 to 8 p.m.
Richard was born on July 30th, 1953 in Des Moines, Iowa. Other than his brief service in the United States Navy, he lived in the area his whole life. He and his wife, Diane, lived on their acreage just east of Indianola for the last 40 years, and this was where he was happiest. This was where he enjoyed planting flowers, designing his Koi pond, and tending to the multitude of animals that he owned throughout the years. Even as his final days approached, he was able to be home as countless family and friends came to visit, which is what he had always hoped for.
Richard had a passion for antiques, and was an avid collector of just about everything, especially old cars and clocks. He took great pride in his collection, and many of his items had an interesting story to go with them, most of the time related to a cherished family member. One thing that is definitely for certain is that Rick left plenty to remember him by, both in spirit and in relics.
