Joyce Fay McCormick
(Nov 10, 1942 - Aug 13, 2015)

Joyce Fay McCormick was born the daughter of William “Henry” Albright and Ruby Ray in Urbandale, Iowa on November 10, 1942. Joyce graduated from Urbandale High School in 1962.
Joyce was united in marriage to Dwaine Arlo McCormick on April 16, 1964. They were blessed with a son – Greg – in the winter of 1964 and a daughter – Shawna – in the summer of 1979. Together, they raised their children on a farm southwest of Indianola.
Joyce chose to be a stay-at-home mom, farm wife and homemaker. Over the years, Joyce was able to express her talents through many hobbies. She enjoyed decorating cakes, dog obedience training, crocheting, painting ceramics, gardening and cooking for her family. Joyce loved to collect pink depression glass and all types of angels.
Joyce’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren. Grandma’s house had a revolving door for “drop-in” daycare and an endless supply of snacks, orange pop and ice tea with Splenda. When Grandma wasn’t taking care of her grandkids, she was ring-side watching them show dogs, cattle, meat goats and hogs.
Joyce F. McCormick died Thursday, August 13, 2015 – opening day of the Iowa State Fair – an event in which she truly loved and where her presence will be missed. Joyce passed peacefully at home surrounded by her family and friends; she was 72.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Dwaine, children Greg (Kelli) McCormick, Shawna (Brian) Fetters, grandchildren Justin (Megan) McCormick, Tyler McCormick, Abbey Pals, Aiden Pals, Kaylie Fetters, Makenna Fetters, Aubrey Fetters and her two dogs Sophie and Willie. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a sister.
The family would like to send a special thanks to Sharon Phillips, Kathy Conrow and Carol Putney for their love and support.
Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 18 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with burial following in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, August 17 at Overton Funeral Home with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to the family in her name.
