Wendell Fetters went to Heaven Friday, July 31, 2015 at Brookdale Overland Park at the age of 90. He was surrounded by his adoring family. Visitation will be Tuesday, August, 4th from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Red Bridge United Methodist Church at 636 E 117th St. KC, MO 64131. A celebration of his life will be Wednesday, August 5th at
1 p.m., also at Red Bridge. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate
or Red Bridge UMC at http://www.redbridgeumc.org/. McGilley State Line Chapel is in charge of Kansas City arrangements 816-942-6180.
Wendell was born on October 7, 1924 in Lacona, IA. He worked for the same company throughout his career and through many acquisitions, ended with Solvay Animal Health Division. Wendell was a decorated WWII veteran. He was a POW and remained active in various veterans groups until his death. He was a hero to his country and to his family and friends. Following his WWII service, he graduated from Simpson College in 1949. He continued serving his country during the Korean War. He was a huge Royals Fan (one of the privileged few to receive the honor of sitting in the Buck O'Neil seat), a Chiefs fan and a Nebraska fan.
Wendell was preceded in death by his parents Vera (Musselman) and Harvey Fetters, his brother James, and his son Mike. He is survived by his wife, Jean of 69 years; daughters, Wendy (Lee Lundeen) and Kim (Mark Hahn); son, Andy Fetters (Terri); seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and sister, Juanita Sassaman.
Graveside services with military rites will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, August 6 in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Overton Funeral Home in Indianola is in charge of local arrangements.
