Obituary from The Des Moines Register newspaper, Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa, USA on 5-19-2013:

John Henry Strawn began celebrating his eternal life with Christ at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, IA on May 17. Johns family will be present at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola on Monday, May 20, from 5 to 8 p.m. with Masonic Services following. Funeral services to be held at St. Charles Parish Church Tuesday, May 21, at 10 a.m.

John was born in St. Charles in 1915. A great father and role model, he farmed and worked at John Deere Des Moines Works. He was a member of St. Charles Parish, Model Lodge #315 A.F. & A.M. and Model Chapter #175 O.E.S.

John is survived by five sons, Charles (Audrey); Dean (Jane); Russel (Joyce); Phillip (Carmen); Dennis (Marilyn, deceased); daughter, Alice Slye (Gerald);18 grand-children, 46 great-grand children, six great- great-grandchildren; sister, Wilmarie McDonald, brothers, Dale (Rose) and Wayne "Shorty" (Sallie).

John was preceded in death by wife, Northa, two daughters in law; two grand-children and one great-grand child.

The family requests in lieu of flowers and plants you consider a memorial to the St. Charles Parish memorial fund or Mercy Hospice in Johnston IA whose staff provided care and compassion in Johns final days.
