Obituary from The Des Moines Register newspaper, Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa, USA on 9-22-1989:

Eugene Edward Spaulding, 87, of Lacona died of a heart attack Thursday at Westview Care Center in Indianola. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church here, and burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Mr. Spaulding, who retired from Maytag Co. and from farming, was born in Indiana and lived in Lacona most of his life. He was a member of the Catholic Church.

Surviving are five sons, Vic of St. Paul, Minn., LaVern of Gilmore City, Mervin of Knoxville, Darrell of Des Moines and Donald of Altoona; seven daughters, Betty Alman of Mason City, Viola Ritchie of Melcher-Dallas, Janis Dittmer of Milo, Marie Konrad of Lacona, Cindy Hodges of Des Moines and Vivian Miller and Karen McCarl, both of Carlisle; two sisters, Josephine Greenwell of Loogootee, Ind.; and Catherine Lannan of Crawfordsville, Ind.; 33 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. today and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at Mosher Funeral Home, where a rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today.
