Obituary from The Record-Herald and Indianola Tribune newspaper, Indianola, Warren County, Iowa, USA on 10-5-2005:
Catherine Porter Ruth, 87, died Thursday, Sept. 29, 2005. Memorial services were Oct. 4 at Overton Funeral Home.
Emily Catherine Smith, the daughter of Effie Milligan and Andy Jacob Smith, was born in Warren County Aug. 21, 1918. She married Russell Porter in Yakima, Wash. on May 31, 1944.
On May 10, 1971 she married Arnold E. Ruth. They spent their winters in California and their summers in Minnesota.
Mrs. Ruth operated the Porter Nursing Home in Indianola. She also worked with interdenominational Churches and campgrounds. She was a member the House of Praise Family Church and World Wide Outreach.
Survivors include her children, George Lenard Porter of Anaheim, Calif., Eldon Leroy Porter of Petal, Miss., and Karla Estele Porter of Hemet, Calif.; four grandchildren; three sisters, Gladys Chumbley, Freda Boucher and Meda Lamb; and one brother, Glen Smith.
