Laura Margaret Wachter, 90, of Milo died of a heart ailment Sunday, May 4, at Indianola Good Samaritan Center. Funeral services were held Thursday, May 8, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with burial in Rosemount Cemetery. Mosher Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Wachter was born in Lacona. She was a homemaker and a member of St, Augustine Catholic Church and Altar Society.
Survivors include two sons, James of Madison, Tenn., and Harold of Milo; two daughters, Alice Demichelis of Miami, Ariz., and Mary Ann Ohnemus of Milo; a sister, Anna Konrad of Lacona; 29 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.Obituary from The Record-Herald and Indianola Tribune newspaper, Indianola, Warren County, Iowa, USA on 6-9-1986:
Laura M. (Schaefer) Wachter, daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Fast) Schaefer, was born March 13, 1896, on a farm near Bauer. She died May 4.
Laura was united in marriage to John Wachter on Feb. 10, 1920, at St Marys Catholic Church in Lacona. To this union was born six children.
John and Laura farmed in the Lacona and Milo area until they moved to a small farm west of Milo when retiring. She lived with her daughter-in-law, Leona Wachter, in Liberty Center until moving to a care center in Indianola in 1985.
She was active in the Rosemount and Milo Altar and Rosary Society, a member of Holy Trinity of Southeast Warren parish, the Milo American Legion Auxiliary and the Milo senior citizens' group.
Laura was preceded in death by her husband, John, a daughter, Evelene (Wachter) Ohnemus, a son, Virgil, three sisters and three brothers.
She is survived by her sons, James and wife Carol of Madison, Tenn., Harold and wife Betty of Milo; two daughters, Alice Demicheles and husband John of Miami, Ariz., and Mary Ann Ohnemus and husband Robert of Milo; a sister, Anna Konrad of Indianola; 29 grandchildren and 21 great-Funeral services were held at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Milo on May 8, with burial at Rosemount Cemetery.
