Irene Elaine Nichols, 89, passed away at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital on Tuesday, December 7, 2010.

Irene was employed at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Knoxville, Iowa and retired in 1986. Irene was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church, and a member of the Order of Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jack. She is survived by her sister Josephine (Flavian) Hoch of Melcher; nieces: Lynn (Ron) Jensen of West Des Moines, Cheryl (Eric) Evens of Cedar Rapids, Mary Evelyn (Bob) Pietenpol of Lincoln, NE; nephews: Jack LeRoy (Peggy) Muck of Las Vegas, J.A. (Nancy) Marchack of Wildwood, MO.

Funeral services will be Friday, December 10, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the New Hope United Methodist Church in Melcher-Dallas. Visitation will be Thursday, December 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Melcher-Dallas. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Hope United Methodist Church or the Melcher-Dallas Rescue Unit.
