Marcella Julia was born March 24, 1911 in Lucas County near Newbern, Iowa to Cletus and Veronica Schneider Hoch. Marcella was married to Herman Ripperger on June 30, 1931 and they were blessed with 10 children: Eileen, Jean, Joan, Sharon, Karen, Norman, Dean, Alan, John, and Eldon.

Marcella was a hard worker and could do anything: a barber, seamstress, and chef (homemade rolls). She was an extraordinary person with a great sense of humor and a zest for life. At the age of 94 she drove the “Duck” at Branson, and was the center of a beach party in Florida at the age of 96. She loved traveling, especially to grandchildren’s weddings. Grandchildren enjoyed hearing stories of her life experiences. She loved her entire family; her sons-in-law and daughters-in-law all commented on how Marcella treated them as her own. Marcella was the center of the family drawing everyone close together and will be warmly remembered by her family.

Marcella passed away November 25, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Center in Indianola. She was preceded in death by husband Herman in 1987; sons: Norman in 1995 and Dean in 2009; and siblings: Norbert, Virgil, Laureen, Gilbert, and Geneva.

Marcella is survived by her daughters: Eileen (Bill) Tucker of Davenport, Jean Zink of High Springs, FL, Joan (Charles) Stanger of Freeport, TX, Sharon (Don) Minton of Tucson, AZ, and Karen Suppers of Pleasant Hills, PA; sons: Alan (Nancy) of Blue Grass, IA, John (Janice) of Hampton, IA, and Eldon (Karen) of Burlington, IA; 21 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; and siblings: Eleanor McAllister, Ivola Schmid, Claude Hoch, and Flavian “Slim” Hoch.
