Bertha Helen Bowlin Huss was born Sept. 27, 1891 at Lathrop, a settlement east of Martensdale, to Franklin and Mary Kyler Bowlin and died on Jan. 26, 1982 at Westview Acres Nursing Home in Leon, at the age of 90 years.
On April 24, 1912 she was united in marriage to Herman Huss at Churchville. To this union one son, John Francis, was born on April 5, 1920.
Bertha and Herman lived most of their in Warren County except for a period of time when she worked at the Mercy and Iowa Methodist Hospitals in Des Moines. In 1974 she moved to Jan's Manor at Indianola and lived there until her health failed.
In 1978 she moved to Westview Acres in Leon so she could be close to her daughter-in-law, Neoma Bucy.
She is survived by one grandson, Larry Huss; and one great-grandson, Jacob Huss of Columbia, S.C.; her daughter-in-law, Neoma Bucy of Kellerton, Ia.; a step-granddaughter, Bonnie Williams of Afton; and a step-grandson, William Bucy of Altoona, nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman; son, John Francis; brothers, Albert Joe, Walter and Clark; sisters, Ida, Nora, Cora, and Sarah.
Funeral services were held Jan. 28 at St Paul's Lutheran Church in Martensdale, with the Rev. James Zuehls officiating. Burial was at Linn Grove Cemetery near Martensdale. Peterson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services for Bertha H. Huss, 90, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Martensdale. Interment will be at the Linn Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Huss died Tuesday evening at the Westview Nursing Home in Leon.
She was born near Martensdale and she and her late husband, Herman, spent most of their lives in Warren County. In recent years she had lived in Jan's Manor in Indianola until two years ago when she made her residence at the Westview Nursing Home in Leon.
She is survived by a grandson, Larry Huss of Columbia, S.C.; and nieces and nephews.
