Services for Wayne E. Dillard, 89, who died Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at the Westview Care Center in Indianola, will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 22 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with burial following in the Webb Cemetery, rural Norwalk, IA.
Wayne was born January 12, 1923 in his parents Russell and Ethel (Tilton) Dillard’s home near Spring Hill in Warren County, IA. He graduated from Spring Hill High School and was united in marriage to Mae Beck on March 20, 20 1945. Wayne farmed his lifetime near Spring Hill, where he grew up, and near Martensdale. He enjoyed farming, people, dancing and playing cards. He was never at a loss for words and had a great sense of humor until his last day.
Survivors include his son, Bradley Dillard of New York City, NY; daughters, Sue Bissell of Creston and Linda (Dan) Dittmer of Lacona; four grandsons, Chad Dittmer, Jaren Dittmer, Kyle Dittmer and Matthew Bissell; five great-grandsons, Austin, Blaise, Lane, Aidin and Hayden; and one niece, Jean Walton of Quincy, IL. Preceding him in death were his parents, son Scott, brother Lowell and longtime companion Patricia Fife.
Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, December 21 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with family present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to family to be used for a scholarship in Wayne’s name.
