George Franklin Haltom, the son of Edward and Ora Haltom was born March 8, 1897 near Norwood in Lucas County. He died at his home in Lacona on May 31, 1982.
He lived his boyhood days near Humeston. Most of his adult life was spent in the Lacona area.
On June 6, 1916 he was united in marriage to L.V. Stokesbury. To this union six children were born. They are: Hazel Marie Ragan, Tacoma, Wash.; Mildred Haltom, Cedar Rapids; Bryant Haltom, Arvada, Colo.; Lila Lee Williams, Lacona; Dolores Roby, Summer, and Darwin Haltom, Lacona.
Prior to his retiement he was a business man, first owning a cafe and later Haltons' Meat Market, both in Lacona, for a total of 60 years. He served as a member of the Lacona City Council and was town clerk for many years. Also he served 17 years on the Lacona school board.
He was preceded in death by his wife L.V.; parents; one grandson; two brothers; three sisters.
Survivors include his six children; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother; two sisters, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Services were held at Mosher Funeral Home June 3, 1982, with burial at the Newbern Cemetery.

Funeral services for George F. Haltom, 85, of Lacona, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 3, at the Mosher Funeral Home in Lacona. Interment will be at the Newbern Cemetery.
Mr. Haltom died May 31 at his home.
He was a businessman in Lacona for 50 years before retiring.
He is survived by two sons, Bryant of Arvada, Colo., and Darwin of Lacona; four daughters, Hazel Reagen of Tacoma, Wash., Mildred Haltom of Cedar Rapids, Lili Lee Williams of Lacona, and Dolores Roby of Summer; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
