Shawn Marie Gordon, 33, of Denver, Colo., died April 4, 2003, following a lengthy illness.

A private interment will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 12, at the Peru Cemetery with the Rev. Dennis Shepherd officiating. A celebration of her life will be at 11:30 a.m. (Sept. 12) at the Winterset United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Barrick officiating. Immediately following the service, friends are invited to Fellowship Hall for lunch and to greet the family.

Shawn Gordon was born May 25, 1969, in Winterset to Larry and Bonnie (Emerson) Gordon. She grew up in Colorado, graduating from Bear Creek High School in Lakewood. She received her master's degree in biology, with special emphasis in genetics, from the University of Colorado in Denver. Shawn was a member of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences.

She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Dean Emerson and Bill Gordon.

She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Bonnie Emerson Gordon and D.B. of Lakewood, Colo.; her father and stepmother, Larry and Mary Gordon of Winterset; a brother, Nicholas Gordon of Winterset; a sister, Jamie Gordon of Winterset; and her grandmothers, Marjorie Lathrum and Betty Gordon, both of Winterset.

To date, three scholarships have been established in her name.
