David Lamport, 37, died August 1, 2010 at his apartment in Leavenworth, KS.

David was born in Council Bluffs on July 12, 1973 and moved to Indianola in 1974. He was a 1992 graduate of Indianola High School . He pursued an aviation career at Central Missouri State University until his January 1994 enlistment in the US Navy and served two WestPac tours on the USS Peleliux (LHA5). After completing active duty January 1997, he attended Grand View College and worked numerous jobs in roofing and construction.

David was an avid "catch and release" fisherman. He enjoyed the outdoors and water sports. As a youth, he excelled in area soccer, was active in the First United Methodist Church and climbed Mount Ranier. He was a lover of animals, frequently rescuing and adopting stray dogs and cats. David's friends and family were always a top priority in his life. He would give his last dollar to a friend in need and take on any job to help neighbors and friends.

David is survived by his father and step-mother, Dennis Lamport and Jill Rossiter of Indianola; his sister Brenda (Rhett) Butler and niece Katelyn of Elkhart, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his mother, Janice Lamport, and sister, Deanne Silbernagel Blade.

Visitation with the family will be held at Overton's Funeral Home, 501 W. Ashland Ave., in Indianola from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 11. A prayer service will be held immediately following visitation at 7:30 p.m. at Overton's.

Note: David Lamport's father grew up in Winterset. His grandparents, Ralph and Mabel Lamport, operated the Westend Grocery for years and were very well known.
