Pg 3Death of Mr. Van Alstine
Mr. C. W. VanAlstine, the photographer on the northwest corner of the square, died at the home of his son in Indianola Monday evening after an illness of about two weeks. Mr. VanAlstine had been conducting a photograph gallery over Martin’s grocery in which he had sleeping apartments and there lived by himself. About two weeks ago he became indisposed, the result of a cold, and in a very short time it developed into what he not doubt thought a coming spell of sickness, and with commendable forethought and good judgment he left immediately for the home of his son, Charley, at Indianola, who is manager of the telephone exchange at that place. After arriving there he grew rapidly worse and died Monday night as stated. The funeral occurs at Indianola today.
Mr. VanAlstine was about seventy years of age and has lived here about three years and was a most estimable gentleman in all ways. Owing to his quest, unobtrusive manners he did not make a large circle of acquaintances but all those who did know him recognized his true worth and upright character.
