Myrtle Kirlin Henson, daughter of Omer and Mary Kirlin, was born near Greenfield, IA, December 2, 1889, and passed away in Des Moines, IA, May 27, 1971, at the age of 81 years, 5 months, and 25 days.
She grew to womanhood in the community of her birth, where she attended rural school and the Louck's Grove Christian Church. In later years, after her marriage, she united with the Pleasant Hill Methodist Church.
January 1, 1913, at the family farm home, she was united in marriage to Stephen Henson. Four children came to bless their home. They are Albert, Marvel, Mary, and Geneva.
Their first home was on a farm at Rutland, ND. After a few years there they moved back to a farm in the St. Marys community where they lived unitl her husband, Stephen, passed away in 1950. She continued to make her home in that community although she worked for several years as a housekeeper and companion for persons who needed her service.
She was a member of the St. Marys Community Club, was active in Farm Bureau women's work, and with the Red Cross campaigns in her community.
The last few years of her life she made her home mostly with her son, Albert.
She found deep satisfaction in serving people-serving her family and all those for whom she was employed gave purpose to her living. Her greatest joy was her family, and she loved to be with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Now after a long and useful life she bids farewell to her daughters, Marvel Loomis and husband, Loren, of New Virginia, IA; Mary Hommer and husband, Ronald, of Indianola; and Geneva Hoover, and husband, Ival, of Indianola, IA; son, Albert and wife, Ruth, of St. Marys, 14 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; two sisters, Edith Lewis, Greenfield; Mrs. Lela Harrison, Centerville; three brothers, Albert Kirlin of Orient, Archie Kirlin of Greenfield, and Glenn Kirlin of Stuart.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
She also leaves many other relatives and a host of friends.
