His home continued in this township for 34 years when he moved to Barney, Iowa, and became the agent of the Great Western Railway company, after serving nine years, he resigned to take personal charge of a stock of goods and general merchandise which he had bought and gave his entire attention to the store and soon succeeded in building up a business that had a large patronage, his business ability, honorable dealings and quiet gentlemanly disposition brought him many friends who once a customer always remained his friend and patron.

Funeral services were held at Barney the 8th conducted by the pastor, Rev. Jasper Webbe at which the Masons attended in a body and gave the burial ritual of the order in token of their appreciation of his loyalty to his lodge and his life as a good citizen of the community.

He never married and the last few years of his life his sister, Ella Foland, after the death of her husband, became his housekeeper. There remains to survive him one brother, Roswell A., and three sister, Mary E. Crawford, Lorah E. Foland, and Cora A. Webb, one brother, Eugene C., and sister, Lydia J. Myers, died of full age and one brother and three sisters died in infancy.

After services conducted by Rev. S. W. Lehe was buried in the Wallace cemetery among the graves of his kindred and of three generations and it is seldom that such an abundance of beautiful flowers were seen at a funeral.
