JOHN T. KIRVIN, Des Moines

John Thomas Kirvin, 78, died peacefully at home on July 3, 2006, surrounded by his family. John gracefully lived each day to the fullest after being diagnosed with terminal cancer.

John was born on December 21, 1927, in Des Moines, the son of John and Mary Ann Kirvin. He was raised in Cumming, Ia, and was a graduate of Dowling High School. John served as a U.S. Marine and in 1952 married Honora T. Harkin. They enjoyed over 50 years of marriage and raised seven children. John was a bricklayer until his retirement in 1988 and was a member of St. Augustin Church.

John is survived by his wife, Honora, his children, Cecelia Kirvin of Des Moines, Deanna (Dan) Kibler of Amana, Cynthia (Biff) Renner of Ankeny, Brian (Alene) Kirvin of Prole, Patricia (Greg) Umthun of Granger, Kathleen Kirvin of Des Moines, Tom (Connie) Kirvin of Des Moines, and thirteen grandchildren, his brother Joseph Kirvin of Marshalltown and his sister Mary Johnson of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Donald Kirvin. The family will receive friends at Caldwell Raddatz Funeral Home on Friday July 7 from 5 to 7 p.m., with the Rosary Service at 7 p.m. The funeral will be held on July 8 at 10 a.m. at St. Augustin Church, with interment to follow at St. John's Cemetery in Cumming, Ia.
