VANSCOY, JOHN, farmer, Virginia Township, Section 14; P. O. New Virginia; was born August 11th, 1828, in in Barber county, West Va.; was married Aug. 13, 1846, to Mary J. Proudfoot, who died April 11, 1852. From this union they had three children: W. T., Virginia, and Mary J., of whom Mary J. died in this county. Again married, May 26th, 1853, to Julia A., daughter of William Proudfoot. They had six children: H. C., M. M., Charles, Sarah L., Simpson L., and Hettie, all living. Moved to White county, Indiana, in the spring of 1854, and in the fall of 1855 to this county, and settled on his present farm, where he owns 320 acres, all well improved. He was several times elected to the board of supervisors under the old system. Has been a member of the M. E. Church for thirty-six years; his wife is also a member.
