OVERBAY, JOHN A., merchant; Belmont Township, P. O. Milo; born Jan. 3, 1841, in Jefferson county, East Tennessee; his parents moved to Keokuk county, this state, in the fall of 1850, and to this county in 1854; was married Oct. 7, 1866, to Margaret, daughter of Wm. McAndrew, of this county; they have five children living: John, Frank, Harry, Walter, Leretta; three deceased: Louie and Ella, twins, and an infant; he enlisted in Co. C, Thirty- fourth Iowa Infantry, in the fall of 1863, as a private; served till Sept. 5, 1865; was in the battles of Graham Plantation, Fort Gaines, Fort Morgan and Blakely; engaged in the mercantile business March 1, 1868, at Helensburg; built a new store and moved to Milo in 1869, where he keeps a full line of dry goods, groceries, boots, shoes, hats and caps.
