LITZENBERG, CHARLES S., Indianola, boot and shoe dealer; he was born July 29, 1834, in Knox county, Ohio; his father died when he was but one year old; his mother moved with him to Pennsylvania when he was eight years of age; his mother married again, and with her husband they again came to Ohio; here he lived till 1853, when he came to Henry county, Iowa; he lived here until the war broke out; he enlisted October 11, 1861, in Company G, 4th Iowa Cavalry, and served till December 11, 1863, when he was discharged for relistment as a veteran; re-enlisted December 12, 1863, and served to the close of the war; he was on detached duty nearly all the time; he was in the service in the Quartermaster's Department; he came to this county in November, 1865; has been justice of the peace four years; mayor of Indianola one term; he followed farming till 1869, when he went into the hardware trade, which he followed two years; after which time he had no particular business, except that of justice of the peace, until March, 1879, when he went into the boot and shoe trade; he was married March 11, 1868, to Elizabeth Henry, a native of Crawford county, Pennsylvania; they have a family of four children; Olivia, Herbert H., Charles and Clarence - all living.
