HIGHTOWER, ROBERT M., farmer, Otter Township, Sec. 14; P. O. Milo; born May 30, 1814, in Taswell county N. C.; his parents moved to East Tennessee in 1826, and remained there until 1837, when they moved to Randolph county, Mo.; he came to this county and settled where he now lives in the spring of 1846. When he came here there were but three families in the county: Mr. Higby, Jones and Poils, who lived north of Sandyville, near where the Hinie school-house now stands; he voted at the first election held in the county, which was held at Ginder's school-house, east of Ackworth; he helped to organize Otter township, and is the oldest resident of the township. He was married Dec. 25, 1858, to Miss Emeline Westbrook, a native of East Tennessee, who died in July, 1866, leaving a family of four children: Robert A., William, Thomas, and Ida, who are all living; he married again in March, 1868, Mrs. Susan E. Overman, a native of N. C.; by this union he has two children: John I. and Charles A., both living; he owns a farm of 120 acres.
