COUCH, JOSEPH H., farmer, Linn Township, Sec. 23; P. O. Lothrop; born in Pennsylvania in the year 1814, and lived there till the year 1835, when he emigrated to Missouri; then came from there to this county in 1848, and settled on what is known as the six mile strip, and belonged to Polk county: he married, while in Missouri, Miss Julia Fanning, a native of Kentucky, born in 1813, married in 1836; has a family of five children living: Joseph, William, George, Benjamin and James; his sons, Joseph and George, were in the 34th regiment, Iowa volunteers, and his son, William, in the 4th Iowa Infantry; he owns a farm of 160 acres.
