KENNETH E. SMITH
Kenneth E. Smith, assessor of Warren County, was born at Winterset Oct. 20, 1907, the son of William N. and Lillian (Henderson) Smith. He graduated from the Winterset high school in 1926 and from the State University of Iowa in 1932.
June 15, 1932, Mr, Smith married Florence E. Weir, daughter of James S. and Mary (Hickman) Weir. Mrs. Smith was born at St. Marys Aug. 25, 1905. Mr. and Mrs. Smith have one son, Richard K., born March 23, 1937.
Mr. Smith came to Indianola in 1932. During World War II he was in the service for four years, his rank being that of captain in the infantry. Fraternally he is affiliated with the Masons, including the Des Moines Consistory, and holds the thirty - second degree in the Masonic order. He is a member of the American Legion, Lions club, and a professional commerce fraternity. Mr. Smith has served as county commander of the American Legion. He is a member and elder of the United Presbyterian church of Indianola. His political ties are with the Republican Party. For a number of years, before becoming county assessor, he handled a large business in petroleum products. Mr. and Mrs. Smith live at 1105 North B street, Indianola.
