GERARD SCHULTZ
Gerald Schultz was born near Owensville, Missouri, Feb. 11, 1902, the son of the Rev. George C. and Helene Schultz. He attended Elmhurst academy at Elmhurst, Illinois, from which he graduated in 1921. He obtained his college education at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, and received the bachelor of arts degree in 1925 with a major in history and a minor in sociology. For two years he held a teaching fellowship in the department of history at the University of Minnesota, where he received the degree of master of arts in 1928. He later continued his studies in history and sociology at Washington University and the University of Missouri.
Aug. 22, 1928, Gerard Schultz married Jennie Lee Brumley, daughter of John D. and Aulta (Ramsey) Brumley. Mrs. Schultz was born at Iberia, Missouri., April 14, 1908, of "old American" stock, including English, Scotch-Irish, Irish and others. Mr.and Mrs. Schultz have three sons: John, born July 28, 1932; Gerard Jr., born Nov. 14, 1934; Dan, born July 10, 1937. Mrs. Schultz is secretary of the First Methodist Church of Indianola.
Mr. Schultz has taught at Iberia Junior College, in summer sessions of the University of Missouri at Rolla, in the University of Missouri at Columbia, and for five years, 1946-1951, he was chairman of the department of sociology in Simpson College, Indianola. He is the author of books and articles, including A History of Miller County, Missouri; Steamboat Navigation on the Osage River Before the Civil War; Early History of the Northern Ozarks; The Home Front in Rural Missouri During World War II. Another work written by him, entitled, Some Effects of World War II on Rural Life in Missouri, was published by the University of Missouri in 1946. During the summer of 1951 he was commissioned by The Record and Tribune Company of Indianola to compile and write a history of Warren County, Iowa. Mr. Schultz is serving his second term as member of the Iowa Merit System council. He has been a member of the board of adjustment and review, Indianola zoning commission, since its organization.
