RAYMOND SAYRE
RUTH BUXTON SAYRE
Raymond Sayre, farmer of Ackworth, was born at New Virginia Jan. 10, 1894, the son of Will E. and Mamie (Clay) Sayre. He graduated from Simpson College in 1917 with the degree of bachelor of arts, and took a course in agricultural engineering at Iowa State college.
Oct. 4, 1918, Raymond Sayre married Ruth Buxton, daughter of William and Anna (McLaughlin) Buxton. Mrs. Sayre was born in Indianola Jan. 25, 1896. She graduated from Simpson College in 1917. Mr. and Mrs. Sayre have four children: Helen, now Mrs. George Coolidge, Alice, William and John.
Mr. Sayre has spent his entire life on the farm with the exception of time he was in school and in the army. His experience and affiliations include: Director, Farm Credit board of Omaha since 1938; president, Tri - County National Farm Loan association; director, Peoples Trust and Savings bank of Indianola; member, board of trustees, Simpson college; director, Iowa Sheep and Wool Growers cooperative; president, Iowa Pure Sheep Breeders association; past president, Warren County Farm Bureau; past member, state advisory committee, Farmers Home administration; f i r s t county chairman, A.A.A. wheat and corn-hog program; past chairman, Iowa Livestock council; secretary-army Y.M.C.A. and second lieutenant, Coast Artillery corps, U. S. army, 1917-1919.
Mrs. Sayre was chosen midwest regional director of the Associated Women of the American Farm Bureau federation in 1938, vice-president in 1944, and president in 1948. She is author of a number of articles on topics of interest to rural women. Her articles have appeared in the Farm Journal, Successful Farming, Women's Press, and other periodicals. Mrs. Sayre is a member of the Master Farm Homemaker guild and served as its national president during 1935-37. In 1940 she was president of the American Country Life association. She belongs to the Association of University Women, the League of Women Voters, and is an honorary member of the Quota club. The Sayres are Methodists and their political affiliation is with the Republican Party.
In 1947 Mr. Sayre was made president of the Associated Country Women of the World, and in connection therewith has traveled widely, not only in the United States, but in Europe, Asia and Africa, including one trip around the world.
