THOMAS LINDSAY LEDLIE
T. L. Ledlie, farmer of Allen Township, was born near Carlisle July 31, 1882. He is the son of Thomas and Mary (Lindsay) Ledlie, both of whom were born in County Armaugh in Ireland. On Oct. 12, 1915, Mr. Ledlie married Mabel Malinda Sells, daughter of William and Mary Sells. Mrs. Ledlie was born near Red Oak Dec. 2, 1884. Mary Elizabeth, daughter of Mr. 'and Mrs. Ledlie, was born Feb. 22, 1918. Miss Ledlie is a graduate of Monmouth college at Monmouth, Ill., and the Library school at Carnegie, Pennsylvania. She is now director of work with children in the Des Moines Public library.
The Ledlies are affiliated with the Masonic order, Order of Eastern Star, Delta Delta Delta and the Monday club of Des Moines. Mr. Ledlie is a director of the Hartford-Carlisle Savings bank. The Led-lies are members of the United Presbyterian church at Scotch Ridge, and Mr. Ledlie is a trustee of that church. Their political ties are with the Republican Party.
Bernard John Lippold, hardware merchant and postmaster at St. Marys, was born there Nov. 6, 1878, the son of Ferdinand and Mary (Limke) Lippold. He married Elizabeth Anna Kleymann, daughter of Henry and Catherine Kleymann, May 27, 1903. Mrs. Lippold was born at Covington, Ky., Aug. 11, 1883.
Children born to Mr. and Mrs. Lippold are Ayrill Joseph, March 19, 1904; Martian Ferdinand, March 31, 1906; Bernice Mary, July 22, 1908; Thomas Henry, Sept. 10, 1909; Lester Sergius, Sept. 21, 1911.
Mr. Lippold was hardware merchant and postmaster at St. Marys for 30 years and was succeeded by his son Thomas. He was a member of the Catholic church at St. Marys, and affiliated with the Knights of Columbus and the Iowa Hardware dealers. His political ties were with the Democratic Party. For many years Mr. Lippold was active in drives for the American Red Cross.
After a long illness, Mr. Lippold passed away Dec. 17, 1949.
