JAMES HENRY INMAN
Dr. J. H. Inman, professor emeritus of education in Simpson College, was born at Adrian in Bates County, Missouri., June 22, 1881, the son of Ezekiel Taylor and Mary (McRoberts) Inman. In 1907 he graduated from Baker University with the degree of bachelor of philosophy. He continued his studies and in 1914 received the degree of bachelor of science in education from the University of Missouri, the degree of master of arts in 1926 and the degree of doctor of philosophy in 1927 from the State University of Iowa.
On Aug. 23, 1911, Dr. Inman married Ethel Gold Grant, daughter of Cyrus and Aura (Vorhees) Grant. Mrs. Inman was born at Ridgeway in Harrison county, Mo., Jan. 31, 1889. She attended the State University of Iowa where she received the degree of bachelor of arts in 1926 and the degree of master of arts in 1927.
Walter Grant Inman, the only child of Dr. and Mrs. Inman, was born June 5, 1912. He graduated from Simpson college in 1933 and in 1934 received the master of arts degree from Clark university. The same institution conferred upon him the degree of doctor of philosophy in 1939. After five years of college teaching, he entered the United States navy, and now holds the rank of lieutenant commander.
Dr. J. H. Inman was superintendent of schools in Iowa for 10 years. He was professor of education in Simpson College from 1926 to 1946. Aften 10 years of teaching experience in Iowa public schools, Mrs. Inman was instructor in Simpson college from 1930-1947. Dr. Inman is a member of Phi Delta Kappa. His religious affiliation is with the Methodist Church, and in politics he supports the Republican Party. Dr. and Mrs. Inman live at 911 North C street, Indianola.
