THOMAS SLOAN BERRY
(August 10, 1906 - July 13, 1994)
Thomas S. Berry was born two miles north of Indianola Aug. 10, 1906, the son of Don L. and Bertha (Sloan) Berry. He was educated in Indianola schools and Oak Grove district school. He received his bachelor of arts degree from Simpson College in 1928. Mr. Berry married Florence L. Rogers of Clarinda June 16, 1931. They have two sons: William Harold, naval R.O.T.C. student at Iowa State college, and Richard Carleton, student at Shawnee Mission high school in Kansas City, Kansas.
Mr. Berry became interested in radio when very young and, in cooperation with J. H. Henderson Jr., with a home made receiver was the first Indianola station to pick up Denver or anything at that distance. He was employed by Iowa Power and Light company, 1928-1929; American Telephone and Telegraph company since 1929, in Des Moines 1932-1952; in engineering department at Kansas City, Mo., in 1952.
The Berrys are Methodists and politically are Republicans. He is a director in Des Moines credit union of telephone employees. Residence: 2400 West 49th street Terrace, Kansas City, Kansas.
