GEORGE DONALD BELLMAN
Born at Melrose, Iowa, Sept. 19, 1894, George Donald (Don) Bellman is the son of George M. and Mary (Carter) Bellman. On Jan. 16, 1918, he married Margaret Ann Glascock, daughter of Henry and Luella Glascock. Mrs. Bellman was born at Spring Hill, Iowa, March 16, 1897. The Bell-mans have three children: Irene (Mrs.Kenneth Kramer); Kathryn (Mrs. E. A. Braught); and Robert E., who lives on the farm northwest o f Indianola.
Mr. Bellman is well known for his interest in education for soil conservation. The All-Iowa Soil Conservation Field day, attended by some 30,000 people, was held on his farm in West Lincoln township Oct. 9, 1947. He has served as a member of the Warren County A.A.A. committee, and was chairman of this committee as well as the U.S.D.A. war board during the years of World War II
Mr. Bellman is a director of the Warren County Fair board; vice-president of the Warren County Oil company; a director of Production Credit association; and a director of the Des Moines Cooperative dairy. He is a member of the Master Farmer club of Iowa, the Farm Bureau, and for a number of years he was a leader in 4-H boys' club work.
The Bellmans worship in the faith of the Methodist church, and their political ties are with the Republican Party. Mr. Bellman is fraternally affiliated with the Warren lodge of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, the Des Moines Consistory, and the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine. In November, 1952, Mr. Bellman was elected to a four-year term in the Iowa senate, representing Warren and Clarke counties. Address: 607 West Second avenue, Indianola.
