EARL ROBBINS BARKER
Earl Robbins Barker, farmer and surveyor, was born at Indianola Sept. 30, 1885, a son of Arthur W. and Ida (Cheshire) Barker. He acquired his early education in the Indianola public schools and continued his studies in the business school of Simpson College.
On Sept. 23, 1919, Mr. Barker was married to Una Grace Moore, daughter of George A. and Mary (Schutt) Moore. Mrs. Barker was born in Warren County Nov. 4, 1890. Four sons born to Mr. and Mrs. Barker are Richard M., born Sept. 16, 1921; John, born Jan. 25, 1923; Hugh C., born May 2, 1926; Edwin K., born Aug. 8, 1928.
Earl Barker is a descendant of pioneer families of Warren County. He is a grandson of M. R. Barker, who came from Gallia County, Ohio, to Warren County, Iowa, in 1849, and established one of the first mercantile houses in Indianola. He is also a grandson of John Cheshire, who came to Warren County in 1855 from Athens county, Ohio. Mr. Cheshire owned and operated a general merchandise store in Indianola from 1856 to 1871, organized the Warren County State bank in 1871 and was its president until 1893.
The Barkers belong to the First Presbyterian church of Indianola, and in politics they give their support to the Republican Party. Mr. and Mrs. Barker live in their new home on East Fourth avenue in Indianola.
