WARREN COUNTY TRIPLE ALLIANCE CANDIDATES
C. P. [Commodore Perry] McGriff, candidate for Representive
Mr. McGriff was born in Delaware county, Ohio, in 1845. Moved with his parents to Wabash county, Indiana in 1850. In 1862, though only 17 years old, he enlisted in Company A, 89th Indiana, serving as a faithful soldier throughout the was and was discharged July 19, 1865. Soon after his discharge he came to Burlington, Iowa, where he lived till 1867. Thence to Warren county in 1870. For 27 years he has lived here, part of the time as a farmer, part of the time as a merchant in Medora. He is a man of sterling integrity, of liberal views on public matters and well posted in political history. He has until recently been an uncompromising Republican and was esteemed by the party managers as one of the pillars of the party in this county. But he has never been a monopolist nor has he ever been in favor of corporation rule. It was with deep regret that he saw the management of his party drifting under the control of the trusts and corporations. And finally, when in obedience to the dictates of the money power the Republican party at St Louis last June declared for the gold standard his patriotism rose above the party. He was beset on every hand by the ablest party bosses, but he silenced them all and threw the entire weight of his voice and his vote with the free silver forces. He has devoted much time to the study of public questions and is ready to give a reason for the faith that is in him. He believes that the people have a right to know the positions on all public questions that are held by those who would represent them and believes too that the people should have an opportunity of judging for themselves of the ability with which the candidate for this position can present his views in public. He has therefore acceeded to the requests of the people in many parts of the county to address them on the issues of the day, and has proved himself able to honorably fill the position to which he aspires. The people have seen and heard him, and they like him. Has any one heard of his opponent in this campaign? Mr. McGriff would like to meet him in joint debate.
