Hiram F. Taylor was born July 31, 1813 in Tennessee. He married at age 27 to Mary Jane Daff on Dec 4, 1840 in Monroe County, Tennessee. Hiram was a minister. He and Mary had six children in Tennessee: Sarah Taylor born in 1841, Darius Hoyt Taylor born in 1843, Thomas Taylor born in 1845, and Nancy E. Taylor born in Mar 1848, Clarinda Taylor born in May 1850, and Frank D. Taylor born in 1852. The family moved to Illinois where their daughter, Amelia Taylor was born in 1854, and then on to Warren County Iowa. Hiram died in Warren County on Jan 18th, 1855, aged 41 years, 5 months, and 18 days. He is buried in Palmyra Cemetery, Palmyra Township.
Mary J. Taylor was still raising five children in Indianola, Warren County, when the 1860 and 1870 Federal census were taken: Hoyt , Nancy E., Clarinda, Frank, and Amelia. Clarinda married Samuel Richey March 26, 1872 and lived in Indianola, then Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa after Samuel died (between 1885-1900). Nancy E. married Albert E. Stewart June 24, 1875, and moved to Delaware County, Iowa, then to Minnesota by 1883. Amelia married George W. Woodcock June 24, 1884. Frank B. Taylor married Hattie M. before 1884. Darius Hoyt Taylor married Harriett D. Pursell Oct 17, 1886, after which time, his mother, Mary, lived with his family. Mary Jane Taylor died on Oct 17, 1900 at age 86. She is also buried in Palmyra Cemetery.Sources:
