Thomas N. Goudy was born 29 June 1850 in Clark County, Ohio according to my research. He was 1 of 12 children born to William L. & Eliza Jane Gowdy. The family surname has been spelled "Gowdy" and "Goudy". Both are correct. The Goudy/Gowdy family has roots in both Davis and Wapello County.

The family moved from Ohio to Iowa some time between 1850 and 1860. They are found on the 1860 US Federal Census for Iowa, Davis County, Soap Creek Township. The family can be found on the 1870 US Federal Census, Iowa, Davis County, Lick Creek Township.

Thomas N. Goudy and family are shown on the US Federal Census for Iowa, Davis County, Lick Creek Township.

My records show that Thomas was married to a Eva W. Kanser (sp) on 4 Apr 1872. I show that they had four children: Cora, Rosetta, Albert, and Earnest. I'm not sure if they other children or not. The 1880 Census does not show Mary and I have no information on her.

The last name of "Kanser" has been suspect as I have never been able to locate any information on them. The 1880 US Federal Census for Lick Creek Township shows the Goudy/Gowdy, Foster, and Post families living all adjacent to one another. All families had members that married one another. The Census also shows a Jacob Karsner (Age 58, born in Ohio, widower) and son Francis (Age 24) living adjacent to the Thomas & Eva Goudy family. I suspect that Jacob is Eva's father.

I show that Thomas died 16 April 1881 and is suppose to be buried in Davis County. I didn't have a burial site info of Spence Cemetery. I understand that records were not kept in Davis COunty until 1880 and after. I'm not sure what records you will find on them.
